Come join the fun on May 13 as the DC-Maryland-Virginia Cannabis Coalition hosts the 2nd annual Vanguard Awards. This affordable and exciting event is 100% geared toward cannabis law reformers and enthusiasts. In addition to the awards presentation, the event will feature regional reform highlights from the past year, a raffle of amazing products (bongs, vaporizers, etc.), and a silent auction of even more amazing items. The venue is Highline RxR, a new bar/restaurant in Crystal City, on the Yellow Line Metro.
This year we have three honorees -- people who have been truly instrumental in bringing reform to the region, and will continue to lead the struggle for cannabis freedom. Learn who they are and meet them at the event!
This year's speaker is Betty Aldworth, a principal player in Colorado's landmark initiative which culminated in citizens passing the amendment that legalized and regulated cannabis for the first time since marijuana prohibition began in 1937. As the Executive Director of Students for Sensible Drug Policy (SSDP), she will inform attendees of its mission and share some valuable lessons from her experiences in Colorado.
The DMVCC welcomes reform advocates, policy makers, legislators, and media. The Highline menu will be available for drinks and dining throughout the event. No need to bring printed tickets, just an ID to check against the reservations list. Reserve your ticket now!
Pre-Party with Reform Professionals
The DC area is home to many drug law reform organizations, and we are fortunate that representatives from many of them will be available from 7-8pm for networking and questions. Please select the "Reform Professional Meet & Greet" ticket option. Already confirmed are Betty Aldworth (SSDP, our keynote speaker), Keith Stroup (founder of NORML), Michael Correia and Michelle Rutter (Nat'l Cannabis Industry Assocation), and several members of the VA/MD/DC legislatures.
The DMVCC was formed in 2014 with the goal of collaborating across state lines to achieve regional reform: cross-promoting events, sharing best practices, and recognizing those who are instrumental in pushing forward common-sense cannabis policy.
Last year's Vanguard Awards were held in DC and featured a rollicking keynote address by Doug Fine, an investigative journalist who has published books on the economic potential of cannabis and industrial hemp. Inaugural award winners were Tommy Wells (DC), Patrick Hope (VA), and Candace Junkin (MD).
